Lesson Learnt from Earthquake
Ever since the earthquake occurred in Nepal , VIN has been actively participating in various activities to provide relief to the victims of the Jitipurphedi ,Okhaldunga and Okharpauwa community. After the major earthquakes in baishakh and regular aftershocks ,the uncertainty and fear always surrounded the mind of the people so considering that fact a volunteer in VIN , Fanny de Swarte conducted a disaster management program among the various women groups. During the program ,136 participants of 12 woman groups shared their experiences during the earthquake and measures they took to stay safe , their struggle during the recovery phase and their suggestion for future generation.
The program was very helpful for the psychological recovery among the woman as they got the platform to share their fear, anxiety ,pain and suffering caused by the earthquake , many even cried during the sessions and they were really happy to give their tips for the next generations .All the tips and advices collected from the groups are going to be distributed back to them under the topic of what to do and what not to do before, during and after the earthquake. The session gave the woman the opportunity to look back at the incident and pass the lesson learnt by them to others as well as to future generations. Women were more confident and relieved after the session and were more aware about the possible dangers like landslide and outbreak of epidemics that can occur after earthquake. The session was a huge success and it was really thoughtful of VIN to help in the conduction of the session.
